About the Artist

"Art has always served as a way to connect us with our spiritual side. For thousands of years artists have explored the unseen and mystical through a careful use of symbolism. By seeing these traditional symbols in new ways we can explore life's mysteries, find our passion, our mission and the true meaning of our lives." -- Lawrence Klimecki

I have been an "artist," and an illustrator, for as long as I can remember. My first commissions came from fellow students back in grade school. Alongside my formal studies I took it upon myself to study the masters of the past, not just their techniques but their motivations, compositions, and approach to their craft.

As I graduated, entered the "real world" and got a "real job," art became a part-time activity but was always part of who I am. Things changed after a "vision" or a dream called me back to the Catholic faith. I began to look for ways to integrate my studies in the faith with my artistic gifts.  In the year 2000 I felt the first faint stirrings of a call to Holy Orders.  I was ordained a deacon in 2008.

Since then I have become more focused on using the gifts God has given me to serve the community. In particular, though my art, I seek to revitalize ancient symbols and explore the visions and prophecies of Christian mystics of the past. We are all given gifts to help us bring people back to God; this is how I use mine.

I am a native of northern California and currently reside in a community a few miles outside of Sacramento. My wife AnNita is my inspiration, my best critic, and a constant source of encouragement. My ministry as a deacon and ongoing study of Christian art provides me with an endless source of material from which I create my imagery.

For me, art is very much a type of prayer.

Feel free to email me with comments or questions. Your feedback is always welcomed and much appreciated.

Thanks for looking, Lawrence.

Christian Visionary Art

"Visionary Art" is art that attempts to portray the reality of the spiritual world, the world of dreams and visions. Symbolism is used to a great extent in order to make visible the invisible world around us. Christian Visionary Art is defined by its themes. To the Christian, the spiritual world is every bit as real and vital as the physical. As we are creatures of both flesh and spirit, we live in both worlds and cannot forsake one for the other.

Original Prints

"Original prints" have been around for a thousand years, only the technology has changed. The first prints were made by carving a design in a block of wood, spreading ink over the design and pressing the ink charged block on to a piece of paper.

Over the centuries artists have taken advantage of technological advances to make multiple prints from a single design carved in wood, metal or stone. With "original prints" there is no "original" piece of art that is reproduced. There is only the "matrix" of wood, metal, or stone.

My matrix of choice is digital. I start with an original drawing. The drawing is scanned into a computer and "painted" digitally in much the same way as I would paint with oil, acrylic, or tempera, but in this case I am painting with pixels of light. The final product is a digital matrix from which multiple original prints may be produced.
